Buy the design, then the boxes
The most expensive networks we are called to fix were bought before they were designed. Switches sized by port count rather than uplink capacity, access points placed where power was convenient, a firewall specified by budget rather than throughput.
Topology, addressing and segmentation first. The bill of materials falls out of that document, and it is usually smaller than the one that would have been bought without it.
PoE budget is not port count
An eight-port PoE switch does not power eight PoE devices. It has a total power budget, and pan-tilt-zoom cameras, high-power access points and IP phones draw very different amounts.
We calculate what your devices really draw, add headroom, and specify against that. It is the single most common sizing mistake we correct.
Labelling and certification
Every run we install is labelled at both ends to a documented schedule and tested with a certifying tester. You receive the results.
It sounds like bureaucracy until the first fault, when the difference between a labelled patch panel and an unlabelled one is a morning.
